Global Academic Leaders Receive Awards at the KMUTNB’s 67th Anniversary Celebration
On 19 February 2026, the KMUTNB’s 67th Anniversary Celebration: “Harnessing Technology for the Nation, Advancing Innovation, and Maintaining Loyal Remembrance of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother” was held at KMUTNB. On this occasion, Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukphasuk, Privy Councillor, presented Distinguished Person of the Year 2025 Awards to Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Prof. h. c. Dr. h. c. Prof. Lothar Kroll, Director of Institute of Lightweight Structures, and Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Rector of Vietnam–Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU).
Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Prof. h.c. Dr. h.c. Prof. Lothar Kroll is an internationally recognized scholar who had put an immense dedication into developing academic cooperation between KMUTNB and Chemnitz University of Technology (TU Chemnitz) in Germany. With the vision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Prof. h.c. Dr. h.c. Prof. Lothar Kroll, who recognizes the potential of Thailand’s local natural materials as the highly sustainable materials, he has continuously supported and promoted the development of academic collaboration between KMUTNB and TU Chemnitz. This has led to remarkable achievements in research collaboration, as well as student and researcher mobility, ultimately resulting in the establishment of the Lightweight Structure Technologies Collaborative Centre (LiST) at KMUTNB, which was officially opened in 2017. Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Prof. h.c. Dr. h.c. Prof. Lothar Kroll has played a significant role in expanding the frontiers of knowledge on fiber materials in tropical and subtropical regions for the development of advanced lightweight materials and structures as future technologies, which will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming.
Also, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap has contributed greatly to the development of cooperation between KMUTNB and Vietnam–Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), Vietnam, since the signing of the MoU in 2023. Presently, both universities have continually achieved fruitful collaborative outcomes. These successes range from the exchange of staff and students, the joint organization of special lectures and international conferences, as well as internships and cooperative education programs involving various faculties across KMUTNB’s three campuses, including the Faculty of Industrial Technology and Management, the Faculty of Business Administration and Service Industry, the College of Industrial Technology, the Faculty of Business and Industrial Development, the Faculty of Digital Agro-Industry, and the Faculty of Business Administration. Additionally, he has played a prominent role in establishing a trilateral cooperative network for international internships among KMUTNB, Vietnam–Korea University of Information and Communication Technology, and Sun World Ba Na Hills, a leading Vietnamese tourism corporation.
