KMUTNB Vice President Showcases KMUTNB’s Research at IIT Madras Conference and Advances Global Collaboration in Materials Engineering

During 5–7 December 2024, Prof. Dr. Somrerk Chandra-ambhorn, Vice President for Research and Information Technology Development at King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), was invited as an expert speaker at the Seventh Asian Symposium on Materials and Processing, organized by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) in India. The participation of the KMUTNB delegation in this prestigious event highlighted the university's commitment to advancing the field of Material Engineering.

IIT Madras was recognized as the top university in India for engineering by the India Rankings 2024, compiled by the National Institutional Ranking Framework, Ministry of Education, Government of India. For decades, KMUTNB has consistently dedicated to promoting research and education in Thailand. Notably, KMUTNB was recently ranked the second-best university in Thailand for research excellence by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024, while the university also secured the second position in Thailand for Materials Science according to the US News Best Global Universities Rankings 2024–2025. Therefore, Prof. Dr. Somrerk Chandra-ambhorn's participation in the conference provided an excellent opportunity to explore potential collaboration between KMUTNB and IIT Madras.

During the event, Prof. Dr. Somrerk presented a research paper focusing on materials for the development of electricity generation equipment using solid oxide fuel cells. This research, conducted by KMUTNB's High Temperature Corrosion of Metals Research Team, and it has been published in world-leading academic journals, including Corrosion Science. In addition to presenting the KMUTNB’s research work, Prof. Dr. Somrerk visited laboratories and research facilities at IIT Madras's Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. These facilities focus on cutting-edge research areas, such as Composite Materials, Tribology, Spray Coating, and the study of materials' structure and properties under high-temperature conditions. The visit highlighted KMUTNB's dedication to fostering international collaborations and promote materials science research and education.
