Welding Institute of Thailand's Asst. Prof. Dr. Panarit Sethakul Honored at IIW Annual Assembly in Greece

During July 7 to 12 July 2024, the International Institute of Welding (IIW) held its 77th Annual Assembly and International Conference in Greece. Representing the Welding Institute of Thailand (WIT), Asst. Prof. Dr. Panarit Sethakul, Acting CEO of WIT and advisor for academic and international affairs of the Faculty of Technical Education, attended in key committee meetings, including IAB-GA (Education, Training, and Qualification), IAB-GB (Implementation Authorization and Certification), IAB-MM (IAB Members Meeting), and C-XIV (Education and Training).

The conference served as a platform for exploring advancements in welding research and technology, fostering international collaboration, and networking among IIW members from around the world. During the assembly, Asst. Prof. Dr. Panarit Sethakul was honored with the IIW Attendance Recognition Award by Dr. Luca Costa, IIW Chief Executive Officer, in recognition of his longstanding contributions to the institute.

Currently, the members of the International Institute of Welding-IIW consist of 59 countries worldwide, and the Welding Institute of Thailand (WIT) has become its members since 2004 as the Authorized National Body-ANB. Since joining IIW, WIT has played a significant role in developing human resources to boost Thailand's industrial competitiveness. Currently, over seven institutions across Thailand are accredited by WIT (ANB Thailand) to offer training programs in welding and they are under the supervision of WIT. Also, WIT has been authorized by IIW to offer training programs across various fields including welding, mechanical, production, material, industrial, civil, and electrical engineering. These training programs aim at addressing the needs of key industrial sectors in Thailand, ranging from micro/nano scale, boiler and pressure vessel, civil engineering, automotive and road transport, rail transport, shipbuilding industry, oil and gas refinery, oil and gas pipeline, nuclear power plant, aeronautical and aerospace engineering, etc.

For over decades, WIT has successfully provided the training programs in accordance with the IIW Guidelines: IAB 001, IAB 252, IAB 041, IAB 089, IAB 195, IAB 201, IAB 362, IAB 348. For instance, the International Welding Engineer (IWE) Program and the International Welding Specialist (IWS) Program, which are offered as both independent course and integrated course, enabling the attendees to earn either a degree or a diploma. With the unceasing commitment to the development of its operation, WIT has also managed under the international standards, such as ISO 17024, ISO 14731, ISO 9606, ISO 3834 etc.
