The Delegation from WIT to Attend the 41st Asian Welding Federation Board Meeting Held in Malaysia
The establishment of the Asian Welding Federation (AWF) was initiated in 2004 by Japan, Singapore, and Thailand. Today, the federation consists of 18 member organizations from 12 countries, including Japan, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Mongolia, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Thailand. The 41st AWF Board Governing and Technical Meetings took place from 5 - 10 November 2024, at the Universiti Kuala Lumpur-Malaysian France Institute (UniKL-MFI), Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia.
The Advisory Board of the Welding Institute of Thailand (WIT), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. h. c. Banleng Sornil, President of WIT and Advisor of TGGS, recognizes the significance of the Common Welder Certificate Scheme based on ISO 9606-1, a program aimed at enhancing the skills and competence of Thai technicians. As a result, WIT approved the participation of its representatives at the 41st AWF meetings. The WIT delegation, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Panarit Sethakul, CEO of WIT, actively participated in the meetings to review the operations of various AWF sub-committees, including the Standardization Committee, Education and Training Committee, Authorized Training Centers, Authorized Testing Bodies, AWF Steering Committee (SC), and the AWF Governing Council Meeting.
Additionally, Asst. Prof. Dr. Peerawatt Nunthavarawong, Assistant Dean for Research and Industry Relations at the Sirindhorn International Thai-German Graduate School of Engineering and Chairman of WIT’s Thermal Spraying Committee, presented a research paper titled “Recent Advancements and Numerical Simulation in Dissimilar AL-Steel FSW Process.” This presentation was well-received by AWF members and sparked valuable discussions on the latest innovations in welding technology. WIT staff also participated in specialized training for auditors and examiners, gaining new knowledge and skills that will contribute to improving the quality and efficiency of WIT's operations. The event marked a key moment in fostering international collaboration and advancing the welding industry in Asia.
