The Groundbreaking MoU Is Signed to Drive the Development of Semiconductor Industry in Thailand

On 14 November 2025, at Benjarat Hall, KMUTNB, Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MHESI’s Office of Permanent Secretary, the Thai Semiconductor Industry Trade Association (THSIA), the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), and a network of 19 universities across the country. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Dr. Punpermsak Aruni, Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of MHESI, Prof. Dr. Teravuti Boonyasopon, Chairman of the KMUTNB University Council, Prof. Dr. Thanin Silpcharu, President of KMUTNB, and Mr. Wirat Sri-amonkitkul, President of THSIA.

This MoU establishes a strategic partnership aimed at advancing Thailand’s semiconductor industry through educational and research collaboration. Key areas of focus will include microelectronics, circuit design, IC assembly, and electrical testing. Moreover, the cooperation aims at promoting the applied research in fields such as smart agriculture, medical technology, and smart industry, addressing the rapidly growing needs of the semiconductor sector.

Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul emphasized that KMUTNB has been designated by MHESI to serve as the centre for the development of human resource and ecosystem for semiconductor industry. The partnership reinforces the country’s innovation-driven economy, as it aligns with the government’s national policy to transform Thailand into a regional leader in semiconductor technology production, ensuring technology security and sustainable development.

Universities participating in the MoU include KMUTNB, Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Naresuan University, Burapha University, Mahidol University, Mae Fah Luang University, Walailak University, Prince of Songkla University, Mahanakorn University, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, Suranaree University of Technology, Panyapiwat Institute of Management, Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology, and King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.
