KMUTNB PRE Students and Faculty Participate in Sakura Science Exchange Program’s PBL Initiative in Japan
Ten outstanding students and two faculty members from the Department of Production and Robotics Engineering, King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), proudly represented the university in the Sakura Science Exchange Program’s Problem-Based Learning (PBL) initiative. The program took place in Japan from January 19 to 25, 2025, with full support from the Sakura Science Exchange Program, a prestigious initiative promoting academic and cultural collaboration between Japan and international institutions.
The delegation, led by Dr. Komkamol Chongbunwatana and Dr. Teppakorn Sittiwanchai, participated in a week-long program hosted by Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech). The PBL initiative focused on advanced robotics engineering, fostering innovation, teamwork, and cross-cultural collaboration. Students had the opportunity to assemble robots and compete in a dynamic robotics competition, working under the mentorship of renowned Japanese professors such as Professor Eiji Hayashi and Professor Hiroshi Ohtake.
Beyond academic activities, the program offered immersive cultural experiences, including visits to industrial sites like the Toyota Kyushu Miyata Factory and Kyutech’s Wakamatsu Campus. Students also explored the historic Kokura Castle and participated in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, enriching their understanding of Japan’s culture, ethics, and values.
The program culminated in a robotics competition, where KMUTNB students showcased their creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. A closing ceremony celebrated their achievements, with special recognition of their efforts. The event was further honored by the presence of the Consul-General of Thailand in Fukuoka, whose encouragement inspired all participants.
“We are truly honored to have had this opportunity to collaborate with Kyutech and participate in the Sakura Science Exchange Program. This experience was invaluable for our students, not only in advancing their technical expertise but also in fostering a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and global collaboration,” said Dr. Komkamol Chongbunwatana, representing the KMUTNB faculty.
KMUTNB extends its sincere gratitude to the Sakura Science Exchange Program, Kyutech, and all Japanese hosts for their exceptional hospitality and support, especially Ms. Apiradee Horie and the Japanese PBL students. This program exemplifies the university’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and preparing students for global opportunities.
